Cherry and White Peach Crisp

Crisps are a wonderful dessert. The nutty, crunchy toppings are definitely my favorite part, and they’re perfect sprinkled over summer-ripe fruit. This cherry and white peach crisp is a great way to make any excess fruit you have taste even more delectable. Serve the crisp hot with a scoop of ice cream, and you have summer perfection on a plate.

To make this crisp, preheat your oven to 375ºF. Cut up your fruit into half inch pieces. I used sweet, red cherries (pitted) and ripe, white peaches. To make a crumble that serves 4 people, you should have 3 cups of cut fruit. Put the fruit in a mixing bowl, and stir in 1/4 cup of sugar, 1/2 tablespoon of flour, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of coarse salt.

In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together 3 tablespoons of room-temperature butter and 1/6 cup of sugar.

Into the butter and sugar, mix 1/4 cup of rolled oats, 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts, 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons of flour, 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of coarse salt. Once everything is incorporated, use your hands to clump the mixture into crumbles.

Pour your fruit into a baking dish, and spread it evenly.

Cover the fruit with the crumble mixture.

Bake the crumble for 1 hour until the fruit is bubbling in the center of the pan and the crumble crust is golden and crisp. Let the crisp cool for 30 minutes before serving it. And then enjoy! Store any leftovers in the fridge and eat them for breakfast. I love summer.

Cute Bomb, Courtesy of My Phone

Every week, Apple has been giving out a free app in the App Store, and I got one that I love. Snapseed is a photo app that has some great editing functions. When I can’t fall asleep at night, I edit pictures. It’s fun, and I’ve created some really cool effects. I don’t get around to transferring my phone pictures to my computer nearly enough, but here are some highlights.

Stella and I have been having a great time at the park playing in the bushes. We each stand on one side of a thicket, and she tries to chase me around. She always wins, and she even figured out that she can go through the thicket to reach me faster. After a few rounds, she took a cool-off break in there instead.

Here is the original photo I snapped. Afterwards, I counted 8 bug bites on my legs and 1 on my arm. That’s what I get for playing in a thicket of bushes. What is wrong with me?

Here is Stella sleeping in a tight little ball on her red chair. But with some editing, it looks like she is floating in space.

Here is the original. Still cute, but nothing special.

Snapseed also has some great color effects. My sister took this picture of Mango. It looks like they were hanging out in some bushes too. It must be genetic.

Here is the original Mango picture. He is still a majestic beauty. What are your favorite photo apps?

These Are a Few of My Favorite…Face Things

There are some secrets that are just too good to keep. I love sharing mine with you, and I’ve discovered a few products recently that I love.

The first secret is Sephora’s ultra-smoothing primer. I apply the primer to my face after moisturizing but before applying make up. It makes my skin look even and smooth, and it really holds make up on well. I use it when I will be out of the house for long periods of time and don’t want to worry about my make up wearing off. The primer comes in a pump package that prevents the product from getting trapped inside so I never have to struggle to get out the last little bit. This primer is efficient in form and function, so it gets an A+ from me!

My other favorite discovery is Kiehl’s midnight recovery concentrate. This product is truly miraculous. It is a blend of different oils (I know, it goes against everything I thought I knew about skincare) that I apply before bed when I feel like my skin is starting to look gross. When I wake up in the morning, my skin has transformed away from being gross and back to being normal. It’s really amazing, and I have never used a product that makes such an immediate, noticeable difference.
